Have no fear Pope Francis is here – an open letter to @Pontifex –

Dear Holy Father,

Welcome to the United States and welcome to our beloved city of New York. I’m writing to request permission to celebrate our wedding in the Catholic Church. My fiancee, Enrique Padilla Jr. and I were both baptised in the Catholic Church and raised in the faith. Up until a couple years ago, I would never have imagined that it would be possible for a same sex marriage to occur in the Catholic Church. But, that was before the miracle that happened when you were placed on the throne of St Peter in March of 2013.

Enrique and I were there. You see, we too were called to Rome to witness the miracle of your papacy. In fact, on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at sundown, I knelt before the throne of St Peter and proposed to my life partner of then, 19 years, and asked him to marry me. A few days later, you sat on that throne and were annointed the most powerful human being on planet earth – you became the Holy Father to all Catholics worldwide, including Enrique and me. Do not squander that power, Holy Father. Your time as Pope is limited and until you do what God has called you to do, allow the church to celebrate unconditional love and equality for all human beings, all of your other heroic work will be unfruitful.

The time for action is now, Holy Father. It’s time to “defend human life at every stage of its development.”  It’s time to allow women into the priesthood. It’s time to allow same sex marriages to be performed in the church. It’s time for unconditional love for all. Let that love flow through you now. Have no fear, Holy Father. The church will not crumble – it will blossom. It’s time for you to finish what you started when you were called to the priesthood and took your vows in 1969. It’s time.

May God bless your eternal soul.

 Sincerely,

Culver Connor Sebastian McCall
