March is a magical month for Apple

Where were you in March of 2010? You can’t remember can you? Well I was at the Apple store in the meatpacking district in NYC waiting patiently for the first generation iPad to arrive. The device changed the world and was Steve Jobs’ crowning achievement.
Apple has released product in March regularly for years. So, March’s release of the Apple Watch this month is not only a nod to its founder, its magical marketing mojo. The game changing device will arrive sometime this month and start appearing on wrists across the planet shortly thereafter. To assure that the watch receives the fashion world’s attention, Apple has purchased a 12 page spread in Vogue. Take a look at all its gorgeous glossy goodness here.
The Vogue spread is rumored to have cost 2 million dollars and is sure to catch the attention of anyone that still reads print magazines. Surely Tim Cook has an even more impressive digital campaign planned. But, the most interesting and most subtle aspect of the Vogue campaign is a very discreet nod from Vogue’s editor Anna Wintour. In her letter from the editor Anna says, “Every now and then something emerges that you just know is going to be a major fashion hit…” The thing is she doesn’t even mention the Apple Watch. She’s referring to a fashion spread about the White trend that will have everyone saying, “I want” rather than “I do”. But, the genius of Anna is that the opposite page is full page white ad with nothing more than the Apple Watch logo.
Less is more. I can’t wait for mine.
