Dude, lose that noose around your neck –

The Spring 2015 London and Milan menswear shows have wrapped up. Now the fashion pack moves on to Paris for more men’s shows and then, of course, it’s Couture! Several trends are emerging including, texture, transparency, shine, mesh, bright colors and pop art prints. But, the most noticeable trend is the absence of neckties. Most designers are foregoing them including Ermengildo Zegna, Gucci, Versace, etc. The photo above is from the Burberry show and it captures the mood that young men are longing for in business clothing across the globe – relaxed, casual, comfortable tailoring.

Fashion is always a barometer of what’s going on politically and socially. Let’s face it, the world has been drastically altered in the last 12 months. The most significant change affecting the menswear market was the Supreme Court rulings on gay mariage last June. With those groundbreaking rulings, suddenly gender equality has a whole new meaning. There’s a revolution happening in menswear – and you ain’t seen nothin’ yet!

We can look forward to an androgynous explosion of crossdressed teenagers, the likes of which we haven’t seen since the middle ages – boys in tights and skirts and girls in army fatigues. All we need now is a female president to really get this gender bender started. Consider yourself warned, the girly men are coming!
