Rewards

Achieving your goals is not easy. But, I’ve found a great trick that makes it a little easier to realize your dreams. Set realistic weekly goals and reward yourself once you’ve met them. For instance, in my marathon training, Saturday is my long run day. Last week my goal was to run 15 miles. That’s two miles longer than a half marathon and right on track for me to be running marathon distance by mid August.

Once I completed the run, I allowed myself some downtime, a big lunch, lots of water and a nap. That’s reward enough, right? Wrong! As Madonna once said, “We are living in a material world and I am a material girl.” Me too! I need more than a doggy treat as a reward for a job well done. I treated myself to a new pair of running shoes, pictured above. I needed new shoes anyway. So, I found a reward that not only made me feel like my training was fullfilling and also enhanced the experience along the way. Go ahead, set a goal for this week and then reward yourself once you’ve accomplished it. You deserve the very best!
