#PrettyHurts but mile 7 is bliss.
I never wake up, jump out of bed and shout, “let’s go running!” That just never happens. The first 3 miles are agony. I always ask myself, ” Why do you do this? I hate this!” But, something magical happens at around mile 5. My muscles are warmed up, my heart is pumping. My breathing is deeper. Suddenly my body feels alive. Around mile 6 the endorphins have kicked in and I’m feeling great. This is why I run. The feeling of awesomeness that washes over my body when running is indescribable.
The real magic happens around mile 7, though. It’s as if a portal opens and I run through a secret entry point into infinity. It sounds crazy, I know. But, it happens every time I’m on a long run. Suddenly the music queues up, my spine pulses with an electric charge, every cell of my body pulses with the vibrancy of life. Around me the air seems fresher, the light clearer, the birds sing in unison with the music playing on my iPhone. There is a feeling of omnipotence – a sense that anything and everything is possible. I am at one with the entire universe. Mile 7 is bliss. That’s why I run.
